Capital Electric Line Builders constructed the large and reliable Midian 138/69 kV Substation Rebuild. It is one of the largest substations the customer has developed and ensures the community of El Dorado, Kansas, has dependable load capacity for years to come.
The project faced unexpected challenges due to rocky subterrain, which required using larger equipment and rock-breaking tactics to complete the below-grade work. The team also repurposed the 138/12 kV transformer from the old substation for reuse in the new substation.
Capital Electric Line Builders used several emerging technologies to complete this project:
- Swage compressing bus fitting to fasten everything together.
- Exothermic welding on below-grade grounding connections, which uses super-heated copper alloy to permanently join the conductors.
- GPS surveying equipment to lay out below-grade conduit and grounding install locations.
- An enclosed power control center to keep equipment safe from wildlife and weather, helping to ensure safety and reliability.
Capital Electric Line Builders, an Everus company, met strict timelines while ensuring safety and quality.
